Synopsis purchasing Virage Logic at 289 million USD

Synopsys, a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design, verification and manufacturing, and Virage Logic Corporation, a leading independent provider of semiconductor intellectual property (IP) for the design of complex integrated circuits, yesterday announced they have signed a definitive agreement for Synopsys to acquire Virage Logic. Virage Logic's offering will complement Synopsys' DesignWare® interface and analog IP portfolio by adding embedded memories with test and repair, non-volatile memories (NVMs), standard cell libraries, and programmable cores for control and multimedia sub-systems. With this acquisition, Synopsys will strengthen its ability to help design teams achieve their system-on-chip (SoC) development goals by providing them with a more comprehensive portfolio of production-proven, high-quality IP and excellent worldwide technical support. AMD revaluation has become one of the most popular issues of the society. However, the continuous process of revaluation has become to a certain extent threaten the economic security of the country. The economy of Armenia may be deprived not only from the local producers but also foreign investors. In 2000, the information technologies (IT) field was announced the supreme field of economy in Armenia. When talking about Armenia’s natural resources, economic development and comparing Armenia to other regional countries, the Armenian authorities used to say that although Armenia doesn’t have oil, a sea or communications, but it does have rich human resources. Armenians declared Armenia a country with an IT society and a regional center for IT. But it turns out that not having oil or a sea doesn’t create obstacles for other countries to develop in the field of information technologies. Experts say that Azerbaijan and Georgia are doing better in the application of IT than Armenia. So, how is Armenia doing? –“Badly,” say IT experts. “First, let’s take education. According to our information, the newly established “Fibernet” company belongs to the Minister of Transport and Communication, Andranik Manukyan, and to the head of ministry personnel, Walter Marutyun. We tried tolearn about that information from the press department of the ministry, but they told us that they could not ask the minister that question. One of the greatest investor in IT in Armenia, “Synopsis” company has started to lose a lot of finances because of the instabile currency exchange rates. According to the chairman of “Synopsis Armenia” CJSC, Hovik Musayelyan, they believe that the mentioned process can’t last long. Recently Andranik Margaryan visited Tunis to take part in the meeting of “Information society” project. During this visit the RA government made an arrangement to apply Alcatel and Intel technologies in Armenia which allows joining the Internet without any cable. The RA government made a memorandum with Alcatel company, according to which they will found an educational and scientific center in Armenia and will apply Wi-Fi and Wimax remote technologies.
