They ate each other up

May 12, 2007 | 21:25

A beating took place between the Dashnaks and Republicans in the 26th polling station of the no.1 precinct located in the Avan and Nor Nork districts of Yerevan. This was the announcement made to “Radio Liberty” by president of the electoral commission of the polling station, Republican Vahram Manukyan and secretary of the commission Marine Soghomonyan.

According to Marine Soghomonyan, it all started when a young man tried to vote for the Dashnaktsutiun for the second time, while she and the trusted person of the Dashnaktsutiun Levon Davoyan noticed that and called the young man outside. “He came out, better yet, escaped, otherwise I would have taken his passport. Fifteen minutes later a crowd of people entered the school and the beating began-the Dashnaks were simply beating the Republicans.

Then the Republicans started their beating-they piled up in the school yard with their “Jeeps”. I called them to come outside, they came outside and I don’t know, it was probably a massacre. They were beating each other up.” He assured that there had not been any shootings.

“They just cruelly beat each other up.” Representative of the ARF Supreme Bureau of Armenia Armen Rustamyan told “Radio Liberty” that the facts presented by the commission secretary don’t correspond to reality; on the contrary, the Dashnaktsutiun prevented the fraud and that is why a “big conflict” arose. Rustamyan promised that he would announce the details regarding the event later. Based on some information, the Republican Party candidate nominated in the same precinct Ruben Hayrapetyan had something to do with the beating. Hayrapetyan, however, told “Radio Liberty” that he denies that there has been such an event.
