“No reasonable violations registered so far”

May 12, 2007 | 20:10

Member of CIS monitoring mission, the secretary of the Central Electoral Commission of Belarus, Nikolay Lozovik, who visited Polling Station #03/23, said to “Azatutyun” radio station correspondents that “no reasonable violations have been registered so far”.

He says that they have been to eight polling stations and that their impression is that the electoral commission members are mostly well prepared and educated about electoral procedures. Each commission member has the necessary authorization for working in the respective electoral commission. “If they have learned everything well, are informed about the procedures and have worked with the law and the relative documentation, they are able to do their work in a duly manner”, said the CIS monitor.

Generally he said that the polling stations are furnished well and the responsibilities are distributed in a duly manner and according to the Electoral Code. “Based on this information we may say that the work of the commissions is normal”, said the observer. He says it is too early to speak about the political factors since he believes the most important thing is the voters as their votes are the key factor, and that the commissions should grant the right to make a conscious and free choice. “At this moment we see that the commissions are doing a fine job”, said the CIS observer.
